Breakaway Collar

I have recently acquired a cat. Well I've lived with it before, what happened was me and boyfriend lived with his mom in this condo and she moved out of it and we moved back in it. The cat is an indoor/outdoor cat and was unhappy with his new residence so we offered to take him in. My boyfriends mom never kept a collar on the cat but I wanted to so I got him a safe cat breakaway collar and a small name tag with our home number just in case anything was to happen to him while he was outside. Well one night he went downstairs and came back up and was acting very funny! Turns out the ring holding the tag got caught on one of his teeth and he was trying to get it off and couldnt! The collar wasnt too loose I could fit 2 fingers between the collar and his neck (i thought that was the general rule) but my real question is why didnt the collar break when he was pulling on it? I haven't tried putting it on him again I'm afraid he will be really scared of it. Is there a better brand of collar? Or a tag the doesnt dangle....more like a plate?

with an animal that small 2 fingers under the collar may be too big, we use that rule on our labs it may be different for cats. Break away collars are made so if they get caught on it they wont hang themselves it takes a bit of weight before it breaks away.

my cat has gone through so many of those collars he cant keep one on for longer than 48 hours... I stoped putting them on him and went to a regular colar and he somehow came home without that one too.... lol

freekin cat....

my point was they do come off and i have about 100$ wasted to prove it...
he now wears no colar cause whats the point he will get out of it
