Cat diet

How do you put a cat on a diet? My cat Tobbie is a pretty hefty boy.. 21 pounds (i have a picture in another post My post ) .. we have a few other cats in this house (6) and they all have access to food all through out the day.... i know theres food you can get for them but how can i get him to stop eatting everybody elses food, and them not eat his?

I would highly suggest doing a feeding schedual. If one cat can access food, the others can. That way you can also monitor how much each animal is eating.

Owned by 26 chins, 7 cats, 2 dogs, and 7 aquariums

Hmm what a tough situation, espeically with 6 other kitties! Have you talked to your vet about his weight? I wonder if he/she any good ideas on how the feeding should go? I agree with Lixx, I think some kind of feeding schedule would be good, as hard as it is! Is there anyway you can seperate the bowls, too and have Tobbie's bowl in another room, with the lite food? Maybe feed everyone the amount on the bag in the morning/evening and have Tobbie's bowl in the other room?

I have Annie and Oliver on a simple feeding scedule. They get 4 meals a day and it's pretty easy.
(Of course I have no idea if that would be easy with 7 cats, but I hope to find out one day!)
Taking away the "throughout the day food nibbling" should really help bring his weight down.
