Question Cloud is obsessed with water...

He keeps drinking out of my fish tank, which is not good for the fish or Cloud because the water level goes down about 5 inches when he drinks. :/ We don't know why he's obsessed with any running water...what should we do?

My kitties like to play with running water, I'd set the faucet on a slow drip or tiny stream and they sit and try to catch the water with their paws or drink from the faucet. Lots of kitties like to do this, its no problem unless the water isn't clean.

But he drinks so much! I'll leave the room and he'll be slurping from the fish tank and when I come back 25 minutes later he's still doing it. He can't possibly be that thirsty.

Maybe he has diabetes? Or maybe he is just really thirsty, due to excess salt levels in his diet.

My cats drink from the bathroom sink. Even though they have bowls full of water.

If you think he is drinking excessively you might want to get him tested for thyroid issues. But he may be just playing

They have kitty fountains that cycle water. Maybe you can distract him with one of those. I would definitely get him checked out though. It sounds like a lot of water to drink for a kitty.

I know it's not normal for him to be drinking that much. I would have him checked at the vet, but my dad hates spending money and our pets when they aren't showing any visible symptoms. I'd have to give him a good reason to visit the vet, meaning that I'd have to diagnose Cloud before we could go.

maybe he just likes fish flavored water? are you sure hes really drinking that much? cuz some water in your aquarium will evaporate too.. especially if your house is really dry (like if the AC runs alot) if hes really drinking that much water, he should see a vet, i know what you mean about parents not taking there animals to the vet, my parents were like that when we were little too, maybe you could ask them if you could do something to raise the money to pay for it?

Maybe if you show your dad pet health web-sites like this one, he would be more willing to take Cloud for a checkup. Also, is there any way to prevent your kitty from getting up close to your aquarium to drink?

How Do You Know If Your Pet Is Excessively Thirsty ?

I hope things turn out well for you and your cat. Good Luck. <-Steve->

my cat used to do that to...she would sit there for an hour at a time and sip here and there...we got her one of those kitty fountains that had running water and she stopped drinking from the fish tank...but we also put some small wire mesh on the top so she couldn't, I was worried about my fish

Beau just LOVES watching the toilet flush! He has to be in the bathroom with you, then lays down until your done, then puts his paws on the seat to watch it go down!
