find an alternative

find an alternative
by: Sandra L. Toney

Two-year-old Sapphire loved to climb curtains. Despite saying "NO!" to him continuously, the frisky feline couldn't resist clawing his way to the top as if they were his own catnip-topped Mount Everest. Curtains were replaced by horizontal mini-blinds, which he attempted to climb, instead bending them into a mass of jumbled string and slats.
Could Sapphire's destructive behavior ever be altered? Pets behave certain ways for specific reasons. Instead of the scolding and punishing tactics that owners normally use to discourage "bad" behavior, why not find an "alternative" to kitty's naughty ways?
