Required shots???

What are the shots that cats should have?

I am trying to figure out what shots Amadeus needs when he goes in for some in October since he missed going in this month, since we are still looking for a good and reasonably priced vet (the dogs vet wants lots of $ to do the shots).

I have his vet record from the shelter so I will bring that in with me, but I still am curious as to which shots cats get.

He is almost 8 moths old.

Merci

Rabies,Distemper and then there is FELV and FIP/FIV.Alot of people who have indoor only cats don't usually get these done and nobody I know have their cats vaccinated. It seems these days nobody sees having cats vaccinated as important as dogs.Kittens also get boosters done when they are about 8 weeks old,did he have them?

everyone i know with a cat gets shots done for them. Lots of those diseases can be transfered from person to pet, if a person pets an infected cat, they will track in the germs to your house. So indoor cats should have them as well.

It must be different there then, because everyone I know with cats does not have all of these vaccines and never had a problem. Also in the cat forum I am in,there was a thread about this recently and most people there don't vaccinate either.

Interesting.... I am defiantly getting my Amadeus vaccinated. No use not getting the shots and then having him get sick from something that could have been prevented.

i know this is old but, my vet told my family cats are supposed to get all the vaccinations, but if they are strictly an indoor cat they arent required to get a rabies shot. although they probably should get one just in case

All I know the only required by local authorities is the rabies shot.

He got his shots a while ago and only needed a booster, although truthfully I don't really remember at the moment.

Rabies is required everywhere, I would think. Feline luc. is only need for out door cats.
