taking a cats blood pressure

My vet came over tonight to check Tylers blood pressure. It was so cool! First he shaved some hair off Tyler's tail. Then he placed a little blood pressure cuff on his tail . He used a doppler to listen to his heart beat. I could hear the swish swish. Once he found that he pumped up the cuff until the swish swish was no longer heard. Then he let the cuff go and listened for the swish swish again. At first he said it was really high - about 220. Once Tyler got used to it he began to relax. The vet took it quite a few times. Eventually it was down to 170. I don't think that is too bad considering he has not even been on the meds a full week. The vet was happy with it. He said he needs to take it again in a month but to keep his meds the same dosage.
The vet also looked in his eyes really well. The left eye is still detached and the vet does not think he will get the sight back in his left eye. Which I knew because the emergency vet said the same thing. He is optimistic about Tyler's right eye. The right eye is about 1/3 detached.
It was obvious that Tyler cannot see close up when he crashed into the closed bathroom door in an attempt to escape. I felt so bad! But then after the exam he jumped right over the board at the bottom of the steps to get away. I guess he is really used to the house. That bathroom door never gets closed. It's a hall bathroom that I just use it to clean up after the buns and kitties.
