Illusion insists on this behavior as well. Taking large preference to the fish tank(when it was there) and anywhere else he can dip his little devil paws into. The toilet is one of his new spots, so the lid stays down! Just cover any unsafe water to ensure what she wants to drink is not dangerous. I think cats do this because they prefer water in which they cannot smell the minerals and chemicals such as directly from the tap, water that has been sitting around or smells a little dirty will appeal to her more. Cats are just like that *rolls eyes*

My cats do it, too! We even have to be especially cautious of our own drinks--Lucky will definately stick his paws in them!

There is always a cat waiting outside when we get out of the shower so they can start drinking from the tap. And Nanny always drinks with her paws. And Malcolm likes tea. We've also had to chase him away from wine.

my cats drink from the toilet, the sink, the bathtub after the shower (pretty funny to see them lick the tub...)
My cat Tia actually uses her paw to eat! she'll grab a kibble out of her bowl with her paw and put it in her mouth.
cats are weird... just look at this one!

My cat sylvester wont stick his paw in our fish tank but he will lay in the bathroom tub and wait for you to use the bathroom then look at you to turn on the bathtub tap and he will let the water hit him on the head then drink he rarely drinks out of a bowl but does every now and then drinks from the bowls with the dogs.

My devil has taken to sleeping in the bathroom sink, and greeting me in the mornings and most times through the day if he's up to follow me into the bathroom..

lots of cats (and a few dogs) don't like drinking still water, now they have come out with cheaper water fountain dishes that keep the water moving but minerals can clog them up.
