Tomorrow I will be saying goodbye to Babe:

Tomorrow I'm taking Babe to a horse sale. I don't want to but it is pretty much the other choice my husband and I have left. We've been trying to sell her for over 5 months now. But no one seems to want to buy a 20 year old horse. Today was kinda hard on me because when I went out to my friend's farm to groom Babe and pick her feet she put her chin on my back it was so sad. She's hardly ever that effectinate. But she was today well she did head butt me once. I'll have to go out tomorrow moring and give her a bath then around 1:00P.M. another friend of my husband's is going to be hauling her to the sale for us. So we're going to try and get her up there by 2:00P.M. or before. We're going to try to sale her before the actual sale. The actual horse sale starts at 6:00P.M. I just hope that she goes to a good home. Well I just thought I would share.

Tina goodluck with the sale.If you are with her when she goes into the ring I mean actully walk or ride her into the ring. That way the meat buyers see that this horse is a family pet.
I know its hard to do put it makes things 100% better for her.
We also raise White Tail Deer and any time we sell one I take them into the ring.We also do rescues with horses and it seems that the meat guys don't bid on pet horses unless they are lame.

Thank-you Nancy you are so sweet. And you are too Nico thinks for the tips Nico. I'll be sure I'm the one takes her into the ring then. As long as I don't cry my eyes out I'll try and make myself do it after she is sold.

I hope she found a good home. It's very risky taking a 20 year old horse to an auction, regardless if you ride them in the ring or not. Meat buyers don't care if they are a family pet or not, they just see dollar signs. Keeping my fingers crossed she found a good home......

I have to agree with Scarlette and Nico, you have got to watch out for slaughter houses when it comes to a 20 year old horse. They DO NOT care if it is a family pet, a Kentucky Derby winner name Exceller was sold to a Slaughter house. Your taking an awful big risk of her getting sold to slaughter by taking her to a sale. You should reconsider and maybe donate her to a stable or a horse rehab program.I would really think twice about the sale. Just my thought...

Actually she went to a good home. A couple that runs a girl's camp bought her. We weren't even at the sale 15 minutes and they wanted her. I think they wanted her soon as she came off the trailer. And they did seem like they were very honest. So we didn't have to worry about any scavengers.

My husband said when our situation is better and when we have some land of our own to keep a horse. That I get can get another one maybe even two that way we both could have a horse. He said that he promised. So yeah I guess so.
