Baby bird

My neighbor had a robins nest in his bushes in front of his house. He is a complete bird lover and said he checked the nest every morning for the last 3 weeks. He noticed that a robin would perch on one of their hanging baskets and just watch the nest.
Well this morning the nest was empty. He thought that the babies flew away. Well one didn't get too far. He was in our bushes on the living room side. Jay was putting down fertilizer and must have frightened him. The baby tried to fly but was rather akward. He took refuge in the holly bushes in front of our dining room.
I wasn't sure if I should leave bread or water for him. My neighbor assured me that momma would find him. And my neighbor was right! He saw momma going to tend to the baby. I am sure that baby bird is just nervous about using those wings.

Fledglings are a difficult age to deal with. When you find one in the yard like that it is hard to know whether Mom has kicked him out of the nest because there is something wrong with him or if he just doesn't have his wings working correctly yet!

Luckily someone has seen Mom going back to feed him - that's great. And just as lucky is no outdoor cats roaming the neighborhood at night looking for "treats".

Hope he is up, up and away soon!
