Baby birds in our tree!

On Friday we discovered a nest right above our flower garden in the front yard. The nest is literally 10 feet from the front door. I don't know how I didn't notice it before...I must've walked under it a hundred times - lol.

Anyway, it took us awhile to identify the bird because the mama bird was a quick flier and never stayed still long enough for us to get a good look. Finally we did and I got a picture of her.

Turns out it's a family of Red-Eyed Vireos. The mama is tiny, as are the babies. The nest she/he made is great - not like a sparrow or wren nest (which we currently have one of each in the backyard), I guess they use spider silk and lichen to line the nest. Looks pretty nice for a nest!

So here are the pictures I got...

Here are the babies...their eyes are still closed so as of Friday they were less than 4 days old. The fledge in about 12 days so they won't be around long.

Here's the mama in the nest...you can't really see it in this pic but she has really neat red eyes (hence the name)

Wow! Great job on getting the pics!!

With a fledge so quick you really did get lucky to find them when you did.

Thanks so much for sharing...I just love this stuff
