can wild degu swim?

this is probably a very daft question and don't get me wrong i'm not about to put my babies in the bath! but do degu ever swim in the wild to get away from predators etc?

I don't imagine they go out of their way to go in the water but i imagine like all rodents they can swim if needs must for example if they fell in they could swim to the bank and get out

Their natural habitat is semi-arid so I doubt they have too much of an opportunity... I don't know though!
