Degu Pictures ^_^

Earlier I took some pictures of the degus while they were out playing ^_^.

Hikaru:

All three girls enjoying a treat (from left to right: Ichigo, Hikaru, Rosie) :

Ichigo:

Hikaru and Rosie eating:

Hikaru:

Hikaru again:

Ichigo:

Ichigo again:

Rosie:

The bald patch of fur on Ichigo's nose is from Hikaru biting her when she was ill and cranky. It's healing pretty well, though. They're also molting right now so their fur might look a little weird.

Lots.
They are bigger, they cannot have sugars, they drink much more, they only come in one colour, they have smaller litters and their pups are born fully developed, and so much more.... http://degus.org/

Sasami, they are so adorable!
It's funny I never thought I would be able to tell the difference between the three girls I have (or the two boys) and now I can so easily.
Where abouts do you let them out to play?

Cute pictures Are they in the tub there? I can only bring my degus out in the bathroom because it's the only place where they can't dash under something, lol.

Thank you . When I first got Hikaru and Ichigo I was worried about not being able to tell them apart as well. But now it's really easy .

I let them out to play in the bathroom though they also enjoy climbing on me and running on my desk (that's where the cage is).

Thanks . Yup, they're in the tub. And for exactly the reason you said . Hikaru is free to roam the whole bathroom if she wants, though, since she's well behaved. But the others stay in the tub.

Thanks . Yeah, I was actually just talking to someone about the huge size difference between males and females. They look so different!

I will have to try the bathtub thing with them, I used to let my gerbils run in the bathtub, but then i built them a play place.

I have a rabbit cage top i put out in the lawn, I put the two boy Degus (Bruce & George) in it and they had SO much fun.

The bathtub thing is great though most can still jump out . But it does keep them more confined which is especially useful if you have multiple degus. I usually put a towel and some cardboard tubes and boxes in too for them to play with . They really like playing with towels.

I've been wanting to take my degus outside but am too nervous about them escaping...I know if they got out I'd never catch them, haha. I used to bring my hamsters outside, though...but then again, hamsters are much more calm!

and SLOW... LOL
I carry the boys out in a box, then place the box inside the cage and close the lid. Then when I want to put them away, back in the box they go.
I to would not carry them outside sitting on my sholder or anything, what would I tell my rescue group if they got away on me!!! LOL

Do you give your Degus fabric (towels ect.) in their cage?
Just wondering if I gave some to the pregnant Degu if it would be ok for her to build a nest with. I ask b/c Gerbils cannot have fabric.

I don't have any fabric in the cage because I have a feeling after a while Rosie would chew it apart . She's a naughty little degu.

But I'd imagine that if your degu doesn't chew it then it'd be ok.

I always have at least one facecloth in my degu cage. They usually pull a string or two out but then they leave it alone. They use it for their bed and they really like soft things.

My degus love towels too, lol. Whenever I lay one out for them, they burrow all underneath it and play little games with one degu underneath and one degu on top. It's fun to watch
