Degus and human colds

I read somewhere (probably on here, lol) that degus can catch colds from humans. I'm feeling a little under the weather lately and I'm just worried that they'll catch it and develop pneumonia or something. Their cage is in my bedroom. Does anyone know how common it is for a degu to catch a cold from a human? Is there anything I can do to prevent them from catching it? I wash my hands before and after handling them and after I blow my nose or touch my mouth or something (I'm in the habit of doing that anyway because I'm a nursing student). Should this be sufficient? What do you guys do when you have a cold?

Thank!

Degus can catch the human cold from what i have read so i always take precautions when i have a cold to be on the safe side as i don't want my boys to catch anything. I try to limit the time i am around them so not to spread any germs. I try to avoid the room they are in for a few days as colds are air born and if i can i will get my boyfriend or my mum to feed them for me so i don't have to go near them too much. If i do handle them i keep them away from my face and wash my hands before touching them or giving them anything. I'm probably over cautious but if anything happened to my babies i'd never forgive myself.
