oh, I see. okay. I will get a life. Thanks for your thoughtful suggestion. See, if I didn't have a life I would release my pets into the wild and watch them suffer. I do not cage my animals, they live in my house free roam. I guess I don't love them then. Ah, you are right. You must know bc YOU love animals. I have no time for this. I know what the stereotype for Alabama is too, but I won't go there, Troll.

I don't live there, but I am literate, and when I visited there Alabama hadn't magically lost it's weather, predators, and diseases. From Alabama state law:

"§ 13A-11-14. Cruelty to Animals.

(a) A person commits the crime of cruelty to animals if, except as otherwise authorized by law, he intentionally or recklessly:

(1) Subjects any animal to cruel mistreatment; or

(2) Subjects any animal in his custody to cruel neglect; or

(3) Kills or injures without good cause any animal belonging to another.

(b) Cruelty to animals is a Class B misdemeanor.

From definitions in the next paragraph:
(b) The word "cruel" as used in this article shall mean: Every act, omission, or neglect, including abandonment, where unnecessary or unjustifiable pain or suffering, including abandonment, is caused or where unnecessary pain or suffering is allowed to continue."

You abandoned your degus. So sorry, even if the dumb cops in your town said it was fine, it's still against the law, and still legally defined as cruelty.

We are as gods to the beasts of the fields. We order the time o' their birth and the time o' their death. Between times, we ha' a duty. - Terry Pratchett.

You might not care what anyone here has to say but this is a direct quote from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website...

Quote:
Never release animals or plants (e.g., aquarium species, bait, pets, hunting dogs, or water garden plants) into the wild unless you release them into the same waterbody or location where the species came from.

If you really called the police and they told you it was okay to release them, they where wrong. Degus are, in the wild, found in Chile. That's a far cry from Alabama. I doubt that will survive long in the wild on their own. If you really love them, the best thing you could do for them now would be to try to catch them (since you say you see them) and find them a new home where they will be cared for.

"I KNOW they are happy". Quite immature of you. I completely realize that keeping animals in cages is wrong, however, I'm afraid those unfortunate degus might be dead by now. Because they've been bred and raised in captivity. I take my rats out sometimes. They don't ever want to be left somewhere without me being next to them, or holding them. They're scared of everything, the sounds, the birds, the smell of other animals. This is how your former pets were when you released them-if you did, 'cause chances are you're just a troll.
