Going Outside!!!

Since the weather has been so lovely here, i've started taking Raisin and Jerry out into the garden in thelr little carry cases, which they seem to really enjoy, particularly Rais. Last week he sat on top of the cage and was very well behaved. i even let him on the ground (for about 3 seconds!!!). Jerry is a bit friskier and more adventurous!

So, today i bought them one of those walking harnesses (rat sized).

I'm not sure how they'll get on with it, they'll probably hate it and i'll end up taking it back, but i thought i'd give it a go anyway, because if they do like it, i'll get to take them out in the garden for walks!

I use the top of a rabbit wire cage to let my Degu's play outside (supervised of course). They love it. I set set it on the lawn, and place them inside with a box to hide in and soem extra long grass.
You could probably make something with Mesh also.

I'd love to but i'm always afraid they'll escape!!!

I did consider a whole mesh outside run too! I think they'd really love it!

Last nights attempts at getting Jerry to even wear just the harness resulted in bitten fingers, and my attempts at making up with him using mini shredded wheats!!

Not a successful first night!

I'm not giving up yet.... tonight is Raisins turn!!

I'm too fearful of my degus getting away, but I've let them play outside in a secured wire cage with me right next to them. My fat old rats won't even let me put a harness on them (and they're usually pretty docile) I can't imagine it with a degu, heh..

I think he was really getting miffed off as they don't bite anymore! they only did when i first got them!

Jerry is quite nibbly anyway... he grooms me after his belly tickles and is always a bit over eager....

i'm expecting them not to like the harness anyway and get all grotty....

Oh, my! There is no way I am taking my degus outdoors to free range. Degus are excellent evade artists...worse than "trying to take candy from a baby". If I try to put a harness on my degus, I would put bitten so many times that I would look as though a lost a battle with a lawnmower !
