My degu's tail fell off, it healed back nicely, but when I put a female degu in his cage he started chewing it at the base and at the end of the tail. How do I get him to stop and will he hurt himself? Could I put neosporin on his tail?
I hope someone can answer this.

I do believe that polysporin is safe

If he isn't simply over grooming because there is a female present then I think you need to find the problem that is causing him to do this as in a way he is self harming, a trait you need to get him out of before he gets any worse. There might be an underlying problem or stress that is causing him to do this. Is the female the problem do you think? Degu's tend to chew at themselves destructively as a release so i do think you need to find the cause and if it isn't environmental then a small vet visit might be worth while to get him checked out fully to be on the safe side.

I'd also be very careful about what you use on his tail and if unsure maybe consult a vet to be on the safe side. Goodluck and i hope he is back to his old self in no time
