Introduction three new degus

So I'm working on introducing my older degu to three younger ones. I'm not sure how long I should wait. Since I stuck the cages next to each other she just sits in the corner closest to them. Two of the degus pay her no mind but one will huddle as close as possible to her through the cage.

What should I do?

I'd keep doing that for at least a week or two, in addition to mixing bedding between the cages. Also let them all use the same dust bath. If the second cage is large enough, try switching the degus around so they're in the other cage.

If that goes well, try a short introduction in neutral territory (a bath tub or play pen works well). Keep the first few meetings really short and slowly make them longer. Some "arguing" and chasing can be normal but actual fighting and blood shed is not. Females are usually easy to introduce, thankfully .

Followed the advice. There hasn't been any squabbling, but I will wait another week or two to put them together.

That's great to hear . When you do finally put them together in a cage, make sure it's been freshly cleaned. You can also let them use a dust bath together beforehand and place that in the cage.

i did the exact same thing and i worked great! But, i only put them in once and they were fine. Now my oldest one (Coke) thinks of the little girls (tic, tac and toe) as her babies. it's so cute!!!
