My Degu Looks Sick

I just got two yesterday and this morning one has his fur all in a mess not as well groomed as the other one......he has only been on his wheel once this morning and that was just for a minute.....the other one was sleeping on top of him so that may account for the badly groomed hair.....I hope he is all right

How is he doing now? Is he eating and drinking? Is he going to the bathroom?

My degus always sleep on top of eachother but their fur never gets as messy as you're describing. If you think your degu is really sick, I'd get it to a vet to be sure.

Hello!! Do you have a dust bath for your degus? They need one to keep their fur in good condition.

You probably already know that but thought I would tell you anyway, just in case. Otherwise, if in doubt, a vet visit is always well worth it.

Are they new to you did you say? Perhaps they're still settling in and it's taking a bit of adjusting to.

I really hope your degu is ok anyway......

Without meaning to worry you, normally if a degu's coat is ruffled its a sign somethings not quite right, it could be something as simple as the stress of coming to a new home thats caused the ruffled coat but it could also be the sign of something is wrong. Was he alright when you got him? Is he eating and drinking and acting normally (like running around, play fighting and other things degu's do for fun and not sitting quietly out of the way or in a corner)? Also has he got a dust bath as without a dust bath they can get dull shabby coats?

I think to be on the safe side that maybe you should get him checked over by a vet if you are worried as it will give you peace of mind and with degu's its better to be safe then sorry

Glad he is better now.. Keep an eye on him for the next few days, if worried then take him to the vets.. Look forward to seeing pics of them, I never get bored at looking at degus.. The thing with them is that they are very appealing, I try and tell mine off when they have been naughty, they give me that degu look and I melt!
