Aww! They are so cute! Aren't degus great? They remind me of little dogs in squirrel bodies...hehe.

im attached to the mama alot because she hops into my hand I also let her run around free in my living room she always goes back to her cage after about an hour
I never knew a rodent could be let loose in your house and not get lost

I let the babies out a few times but they don't seem to want to go home so I have to chase em down and catch em I hate that

best thing about degus. they'l run back to their cage, just corral them like horses, or they get lost. honest. my girls were adventurous when i first got them, now as soon as i open the door they want to run out and play. if they get out when i don't want them to, i just cut off their running path, and they run right back to the cage. they'r eintelligent creatures, they know their cage is the safe spot. the babies wil coem around. remember no tail catching, it'll come off. babies will relax really quickly, scoop them up with your hands and put them on your lap so the only place left to run is back into the cage. bribe them with food. you're doing great! sweet girls! CONGRATS!

i love a degus's personality but i have never actually seen one around here, i was wondering, when you let them out, are you ever worried that they would start to chew your furniture, bc i hear that they are really bad chewers? only thing that freaks me out about having a degu would be that they would chew my furniture, i have rats, hamsters, mice and besides cord, they leave my furniture alone...how are degus in your opinion

I havent left them out long enough to chew anything up and i can hear them when they are chewing. So far they have only gotten into my magazine rach and chewed up paper. But i have had them only a month and I still don't know what else they will get into. I did push thier cage to close to my wood blinds and I have four little chunks chewed out or a four inch long area

Non of my degus chew the furniture but then again i let them out in the hallway and theres not much for them to chew I have caught them having the odd nibble on the skirting boards before but on a whole they are really good infact one of my rats caused worst damage then any of my degus ever has

My degus will chew the paint right off the walls if I let them, haha. If I just poke them or nudge them a bit, they'll leave it alone though. Their cage is against the wall and I didn't think to remove the posters on the wall before putting them there. They rip pieces off and drag it into the cage to shred up, lol.
