I'm not 100% sure but I think that it CAN be related to mating but not necessarily.

I have two males and sometimes one of them squeaks really loudly for a good 20 minutes. The other degu's ears flick back every time he squeaks, lol. He pretty much just stops when he feels like it and it doesn't seem to be related to anything, at least in his case. Whereas yours are male and female, it may be a mating thing I suppose. I'm not much help!

oh degu squeaking is good! be glad, it's like a dog tail wagging! the happier and more relaxed they are, the more they talk, to you, to each other. mine will squeak at what seems like nothing, i squeak back (whistling works) then they squeak back, it's fun! just talk to them like people. i'm always like "hey baby what you weeping at?" sometimes she'll respond lol.

as long as it's squeaking, it's enjoyment etc. if it's a CHEEP! CHEEP! it means she feels threatened or startled or annoyed. when this happens i just talk to them until they stop, then i give them treats. sometimes it's just a random noise that bugs them.

yep mine do that, but she'll go for 3 days straight (she stops at night tho) and she does it about once a month. i'm used to it, i think it's hilarious, she runs around while squeaking, stares at me whiel squeaking. sometimes we turn the tv up because she won't shut up, but i love it, it's a riot to me

I find it kinda funny too It's like he can't even stop himself from squeaking. If I give him a treat, he tries to eat it and you can just hear muffled squeaks because he can't stop, haha. Usually if I talk to them, they get really calm and turn to look at me but if he's in one of those moods, he just squeaks until he feels like stopping I guess.

I think I know what you mean. It's usually either a mating thing or something they do when they are spooked.

it really is great, they're talkative like birds i usually say, although some days they never make a noise. sometimes i wonder if they're like "hey! remember i'm over here!"
