We are (almost) finished our enclosure! It is 60 cm wide 150cm tall and 120cm long.
We used 3/5 inch thick untreated wood for most of it except a few places we used 3/4 inch thick wood.
The outside is painted for aesthetics but nothing on the inside is. We tiled the bottom floor only and then put newspaper and aspen bedding on top (quite deep so they can burrow a bit)
And on all the higher levels we didn't tile but we put a very thin layer of non-toxic wax (melted on with a torch) not enough to scratch off but enough that it is a little waterproof (easier cleaning) and then on top the newspaper and aspen.
The toys and bowls we got at the petstore, except a few we got from the dollar store! The rope in the top left is a dog toy but I saw some videos where degus liked them.
This is mostly modelled of off a website that has many degu cage examples,octodondegus.weebly. com
Except we added the shelf to the side so that we could store our food, dust etc there, and again, for some aesthetics.
This guy has fantastic youtube videos too!! (nightwishraven999 is his username)
I recommend using his website if you're building your own cage!! It was very simple and I think when we get our degus they will absolutely love it!
Any ideas for additions, concerns with anything, or comments greatly appreciated!!
