Question about Hayfever?

Hey all!

Just a quick question.... is it possible for degus to be affected by Hayfever??

One of mine, Raisin, is having sniffly type problems. Its not a cold/flu/respiratory problem that can be cured with antibiotocs, as his brother Rum (recently passed away) suffered from similar problems.

It seems like he is worst at the end of the day, and sounds fine all morning. At present we are having a bit of a heatwave here, and the pollen count is very high.

I was wondering if being this would be affecting his sniffly condition slightly??

Any thoughts??

I'm not 100% sure on whether they can actually have hay fever as we know it but they can be affected by things in the air. Basil gets a runny nose if he gets a whiff of an air fragrancer such as a ambi pur and it only clears up once all of the fragrance has gone out of the room. So there is every possibility that certain pollens or fragrances could set Raisin off
