I believe they can have straw,but the softer stuff is better as harder straw has sharp pieces.

They can but they'll nest in it, not eat it. As Lisa said you'll want softer hay.

Timothy hay and a little alfalfa. The tougher hay keeps their teeth ground down too much soft food and they will grow so long they can't eat. They should have unlimited supply of Timothy at all times. They will eat it and nest in it too.
