You could look for breeders...they aren't really common in the US.

Seriously?! That's crazy. There are NEVER degus for adoption here . Maybe in NYC there are...I dunno.

Degus have been a 'fad' around here, so that is why we have so many in rescue
They are about $15-$30 at the pet stores, and no one actually knows about them so the average Degu only lives a couple years

we only have 3 posted (duno why?) but we have many, many degus avalable - Petfinder pet list

Wow, that's sad . They are the opposite of a fad here...they aren't too popular. They are hard to find and many petstore degus aren't socialized and bite. So I think they've gotten a bad rep with some people.

Degus are becoming increasingly easy to find over here in the UK which i consider to be a bad thing as a lot are poor quality due to inbreeding and its the animals that are having to suffer. In the last couple of years i have spoken to more and more people with degus suffering from teeth problems and like with chinchillas this is stemmed from poor breeding practice. I've also seen Blue degus for sale too, one thing i hoped i would never see due to how the colouration is achieved

If you are looking for degus try rescues or looking on petfinder like Andrea suggested as there are so many out there looking for a loving home

Kirsty
