You can only introduce DWARVES... as they can live in pair or colonies. If your brother has a Syrian, FORGET IT... They MUST live alone, as they are very territorial and will defend their patch to death... literally... So tell us what breed is the current hamster, before anyone of us can offer any advice...

I wouldn't try introducing Syrians because they are very territorial

A "teddy bear" IS a syrian hamster.

"Teddy bears" are syrian hamster with a fancy name to sound cute,so people will buy them. They are just long haired syrians.I have one and he is really sweet.

However you cannot have two syrians (this includes "teddy bear","black bear","panda bear"...etc,which are ALL syrians) together. They are not social animals, they are quite territorial and will fight to the death.

If you were under the impression that teddy bears were something different than syrians, were you going to be getting two new pets? Two teddy bears plus your syrian?

I think the message here is:
You have a syrian, therefore, NOTHING can be in the same cage as it is. Period.

It has all been said, VERY CLEARLY: NO WAY can a Syrian, of whatever colour or sub-species be introduced to another, unless you want a dead hamster...
