Exclamation Balding Gerbils.. Help..

IM001575.jpg <-- Click to view

Whats wrong with my gerbils.. see the lil guy in bottomish right side.. going bald.. Have had others where their lower back goes bald too.. Appears as tho they may be itching it.. Yet they all don't get it.. and it seems to go away... so I wouldn't suspect a critter-bug..

Any help greatly appreciated

Ok, after some research.. I found bald spots were caused by ringworm, mites, and fighting.

I have not witnessed any fighting and considering the scratching I have seen (now I notice the others scratching too - they just arent losing hair). I am thinking it is mites.

So how do you get rid of mites on gerbils? And is there a way to check for sure if its mites? Can u see mites?

Time for a trip to the Vet.
Everything will need to be cleaned in hot-hot water, freeze all the bedding and food (including hay) for 48 hours, and then your Vet will be able to give you medication for the gerbs and of course determine if it is mites or not.

Zouave is very knowledgable when it comes to mites.
