Pine bedding and also Cedar bedding contain toxic fumes that can give your hamster respiratory problems and sometimes even make the hammie have skin problems. The best bedding is probably recycled [Carefresh].

If you need to make an emergency switch, and can't get to the store right away toilet paper works. (:

Pine and cedar contain phenols which are harmful to animals.
Carefresh is a good choice, but personally I don't like it.

I use aspen and sometimes Yesterday's News and sometimes will mix these.Aspen and YN are both safe and work well.Carefresh works for some people, but I find it dusty, smelly and one of my rats developed an allergy to it.There is a hemp litter too, which is pretty good...but I forget the name.

Another litter to avoid...corncob.It gets moldy fast and animals have been known to choke on it or swallow it and it caused impaction.

If companies can con people into buying their product, they will. There are lots of things sold at pet stores that could acually kill your pets.
Pine and cedar producers are in denial about their bedding hurting animals anyway. They claim its fine.

"For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethen, they are not underlings; they are other nations caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth."
