Question Canned Dog Food?

Hi everyone I read somewhere that hamsters can have a little canned dog food every once in a while. I'm just a little worried that my hamster may get diarrhea from it having so much moisture. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance!

I am not sure about canned dog food, but when I has a hamster I would give her a dog cookie (just a plain one, nothing fancy) every once in awhile.

Greetings Tori,
I used to give to my hamsters dog cookies in small amounts too,It's very good because not only they contain meat but also some minerals which are essential for them.About the canned food,I think that a small amount of the surface in the can it's fine.Just don't get it from the bottom where the most liquids are located. And if you do, decrease the amount of the fruits that you feed them eventually cause they also contain much water + the dog canned food may result in diarrhea!

I never gave my hamster (when I had him) canned food, but gave him bits of kibble or a Milkbone.

My hamsters used to love pieces of cat food when I had them. I gave her cheerios (major hit) fruits and veggies and lots of other things I had laying around in the pantry.

I'm sure you could probably give it mealworms. But I am not positive on that...

Yep,you can give a hamster a mealworm sometimes as a tasty protein filled treat.

I second Lisa, hamsters can indeed have mealworms.

Thank you all so much for these great ideas for snacks! I found that I read that they can have canned food on Hamsterific, and that is on the list of recommended sites.
Also if you all don't mind, can I ask how much is occasionally? lol Like once a week, once a month, or what? Thanks again!
