gerbal teeth

I just bought a gerbal about three days ago it supposed to be fairly young but I have my doughts. I've been bitten hard enough to draw blood about 3 times. She's not latching on she just chews on my hand. Is she attacking me or trying to buffalo me. Another? Dose any one know if thier teeth are sharper then rats? Because my rats chew on my hands on occasion but have never drawn blood.

What do your hands smell like? Are you washing them before handling? Rub them in the bedding to make you smell familiar and don't go handling food beforehand. Don't handle other animals that may frighten her before handling her either. She is probably scared due to being in a new place and being alone. They can bite hard enough to draw blood at nearly any age once their teeth are developed. Also, don't leave your hand in the cage to let her chew on it. Let her briefly sniff you, and talk to her and be around the cage for these first few days to let her get used to your presence so she doesn't see you as a threat. Good luck!
