Gerbie Updates - Growing up

Wow, so much has gone on this past while, in my gerbil filled home.
I remember the days I had 2 gerbils... then I had 4... then 5 then, 11, then 13, then 15, now 16! ACK lol....

So here is our recent updates....

Remember Baby Shelby?
Well Shelby beat the crap outta Maserati her tank mate when she grew mature, and it seems she dosn't care much for gerbils.
This is Shelby when I got her, (she had cut her left eye lid at the time)

This is Shelby now...

She is growing into one Big Girl!

As for Maserati, she healed up real well, and has recently found a new love.... Capri

Maserati showed me she no longer likes Orange gerbils but hurting Baby Malibu ...

Poor Baby Malibu, what a crappy week.. well untill her sister came to live with her!

Malibu's so happy her sister Solara came to live with her... she just wishes she would stop stealing all the good stuff in the food dish!

My Little Peej is not so little anymore...
Peej then...

Peej Now...

beautiful! I love the little beach chair you've got in one tank...is that sand for bedding? I've been interested in trying sand instead of aspen for my gerbils...what kind do you use and do you have any tips? thanks!

That is our "Bath" tank, it's filled with Chinchilla Bath Sand. Everyone gets a turn to bath at the beach once a week. I use a sifter to clean the sand from gerbil poos, and it works very well.
This you could leave a dish in a tank for the gerbils (however they will use it as a toilet) but it wouldn't make very good bedding.
I also use Chinchilla Dust Bath, but in a dish in their play area.

I found that silly chair at the dollar store (got two) I though what fun pictures I could get with that! LOL

:p I'm sure once you get started with breeding for Burmese you'll have more then me!

I'm really happy with how Shelby has grown up. She's a very good sized female, great coat (thought he flash dulls it a bit).
Though she act's 'rat' like. The way she stands and moves around.

What's even weirder, is she "wags" her tail, like when a cat is mad. I've never seen a gerbil do this before.

The Malibu with Solara photo is my favorite.

Nice to reminisce; sometimes sad, too.

I found one Siamese, Pearl, as a pup, but I did not know she was a Siamese when I got her! It was great fun to watch her points darken as she got older, just as it was nice to see Laurel "turn into" a nutmeg. The molt was amazing. I posted photos of them.

I remember vividly the Big Day when I got my first rodent pets - six gerbil pups from a breeder.
Now I have over 60 rodents of all types (less rats), and the first ones are sadly long gone.

They are all remembered here:
