Do they take the hamster out at all? Hamsters should come out daily for out-of-cage time. You can let them run around in a ball or excercise pen.

Are they looking at the hamster 24 hours? Hamsters are nocturnal... he probably runs around and plays and does disasters in his cage when no-one's looking. 8)

they take the hamster out on the weekends, the hamster goes in the tubes from time to time, but most of the time it sleeps.
It is almost a year old, but could it be because the hamster is getting old?

This is doubtful to be the case.

I've had a number of Hammies with one living to just past 3 yrs and all of them Unless they had gotten ill which was only one.

Ran in their Wheels everyday like clockwork.

While granted they may have diminished in their running time as they got Older, they still ran none the less.

My guess would be that it's Lonely and Bored so it figures "WHATS the USE" and just lays around.

Tell them to get it out for even 10 or 15 minutes a day, besides just weekends, I believe they will notice a Marked improvement.
