Ive never heard the ear hair thing. But from what Ive been told, once they are full grown there isnt really a way to tell exactly how old they are. You can tell the age of most animals by looking at their teeth, but sinces hammies teeth are always growing it doesnt work for them.
And they still go into heat, but getting them prego is very dangerous for them once theyre older.
