My ham's eye has gone all weird...help?

One if my female hamsters, Paco her eye has gotten odd. its all red and gloppy, and I dont know if theres anything I can do for her.

Ps. going to the vet is out of the question, my mom wouldnt take a hamster to the vet even if one of its arms had been ripped off by a cat, she believes in letting it die on its own.

Sounds like an eye infection.. the best thing would be to get the hamster some antibiotics from a vet. If that's not possible, I know Ornacycline (tetracycline meant for pet birds) is an antibiotic you can buy from pet stores, it's safe for gerbils - although I'm not 100% sure about hamster safety. And you'd have to make sure you get the dosage right.

Has anything changed with the cage? Could the bedding be causing eye irritation?

Hows he doing? Just wipe it with warm slightly salty water every 3-4 hours and see how it goes. Keep us updated!

I would not recommend the antibiotics from the pet store. Hamsters have a variety of antibiotic sensitivities (very similar to guinea pigs). It's better to have a correct antibiotic from the vet that won't make them ill.
