4-5 weeks is the usual time to rather accurate sexing. Before that it seems to be hit/miss kind of an affair and should be left to those experienced in the field...

WOW! -
What can I say but that She (momma hamster - Nicki) did a good job this time around....... she gave birth to 10 plus babies yesterday morning and they are all doing well.

Nicki's motherly instinct finally kicked in and she has made then a little nest in the cage and she is tending to them and feeding them around the clock.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice and information I received here on the forum that helped me make sure this precious little litter survived this time.

I will take pics as they grow and move about.....

Congrats, I'm glad they're all doing well!

I hope you talked to your nephew. You're actually lucky...if the female hadn't been in heat when she was placed with the male she probably would have tried to kill him.

I really do not feel that would have happened as these two have been together since they were born and they have never had a fight....... they are old cage buddies.

A good place to find people who want to adopt the babies is craigslist.org . Just be sure to meet up with the people who inquire. Ask lots of questions and make sure they are going to pet homes only. If all else fails, try putting an ad in the newspaper. You could also see if any local schools want a free class pet Best of luck finding them good homes. You may want to start scoping things out since these guys grow up quick!

Yeah - I have used Craigslist to buy and sell things on before and I will use it for the hamsters if I need.....
and Thanks for the free class pet ideal - I will check it out ASAP.
