Thumbs up Photos! Two More Rescued Hamsters!

I am so well known at some local pet stores they know I will rescue any abandoned hamsters they get. So, Saturday I went in one and two Syrians were crammed into a small cage suitable (maybe) for only one dwarf; worse, the wheel was runged, and worse still, the bedding was all dangerous cedar! The hams smelled like a clothing closet.

They are both males, and both brothers, I am told. it is sad to separate them as they seemed to be getting along so very well, but we all know not doing so is potentially dangerous in the future.

I picked them up Sunday and moved them to more suitable quarters. Here are the photos after I first brought them home:

I am still working on thinking up names. One is in a big plastic Crittertail, the kind without the bars, and with a long vertical tube leading to
a red "outpost" thing. Hope he figures it out soon.

Aww, what cuties! Wow, that's small! Isn't it a birdcage? It even looks like a birdcage! Congratulations on the new additions!

No, bars are too thick to be a bird cage, plus the runged wheel is obviously designed for it. Sheeez. Amazing they never fought; a shame to separate them, vene if they are now just a yard apart. But it has to be done for safety, as we know.

I have eight Syrians. Four dwarfs.

The darker one I named Cocoa, in tribute to a departed rescue ham, Chocolate, who had similar coloring but short fur. He now has an 8.5 inch Comfort Wheel which he seems to greatly enjoy. I am working on a name for the other.

BTW, I am using that small cage as a holding pen for animals when I clean their cages. For that it is OK.

Thumbs up

I named the lighter colored one Malu, Hawaiian for "peacefulness". He has discovered how to use the vertical tube in the Crittertail Classic (took him over two days), and now is happily nesting and sleeping in the outpost at the top.

Lovely names as well!
