Harry/Hazel Hamster is pretty good . But I personally don't feel any of them are perfect so I like to mix a few and then add some of my own ingredients.

:-)) Now this has started a debate, that will go on, and on... I think every member has something 'special' and hamsters' likes and dislikes vary too.. So, let's see how ingenious our members are. And also let's see who has the 'pickiest' of hamsters :-)

My 2 male RWWs have a standard shop bought mix, which I supplement with various nuts and corn flakes. They seem to love poppy seeds. I give them different treats on daily basis. And a small amount of plain yoghurt, which keeps their system up to scratch...

What do you guys think of pelleted foods such as Mazuri, Kaytee, etc? Does anyone use Kaytee Exact (it looks like fruit loops)? I don't like the fact that the Exact has artifical colors and preservatives but I am wondering what food seems to work better for people. We are thinking of adding a hamster to our family later on this year so I am doing my research now.

Are syrians as prone to diabetes as the smaller breeds are? that will obviously influence my choice of diets.

Mazuri is decent. I don't feed it as a staple but it can be a fine supplement .

I don't feed any of the Kaytee foods because of the ethoxyquin. It's a preservative sometimes used in pet foods that is believed to be causing certain health problems. You can probably look it up...I don't want to go on and on . Wouldn't want a debate.

Also I've noticed that most Kaytee foods seem to be full of sugar, chemicals, and cheap filler ingredients like corn.

Syrians are not as prone to diabetes as dwarf hamsters. But you should still watch the sugar .
