Protecting your dog or cat from fleas and ticks is an important part of responsible pet care.
Although there are many brands of over-the-counter flea and tick products available at supermarkets and pet supply stores, it is critical to read their labels and consult with your veterinarian before using them on your companion. These products may contain ingredients that could harm pets and children.

I use oatmeal soap for my dog. This soap will remove and prevent tick and flea infections. This is surely a wonder soap.

Frontline Plus doesn't work like it used to for me... I have started using the cheap stuff from Tractor Supply and it is doing the job. I have also had excellent results using Hartz powder for the carpet.

You have to be careful with Hartz products. They're highly toxic and many pets have ingested just a little and needed vet care or died :/

I use brewer's yeast & garlic tabs plus a flea, tick, mosquito spray. I also use Diatomacious Earth around the area. Sucks because now mosquitoes only target me on walks and I get ALL the bites. I guess I should put some on myself but I have eczema and it burns my breakout areas =\

If you are looking for a more organic form of monthly flea control there is Comfortis which is a chewable tablet that will take care of fleas, but unfortunately not ticks.
Advantage II, Frontline plus, Revolution for cats (Revolution for flea treatments in dogs doesn't seem to work that well), Advantix (DOGS ONLY!!!!!).

There are products like Sentinel that takes care of your heart worm preventative and will sterilize the flea population as well.

If you want quick treatment, just to kill the flea infestation Capstar or Program tablets work well.

Frontline Plus and Frontline Spray are quite effective against flea and ticks. They are water-proof and prevent fleas from attacking the pets for the next 30 days. Always consult your veterinarian before applying.
