Chattering or Purring

I just got two guinea pigs about a week and a half ago, both female and get along well. The one is about 4 weeks old (Rosie) and the other is maybe 5 weeks (Flour).

When I pick Rosie up I can't tell if shes teeth chattering at me, or if shes purring. How can I tell the difference?

If you guys had any sounds that I could compare to that would be awesome!

What do his noises mean?!

rssgnl27, like you, I've had my guinea pig called Bob (about 6 weeks old) for 1 week now and he talks constantly but I don't know what his noises mean!!!!
He is more than happy to sit on me for hours on end nibbling on carrots and other such guinea piggy foods and will chatter to me the whole time! He is absolutely adorable and I would love to know a bit about what his noises mean - can anyone help us?!

Okay you guys, here are what some piggie noises mean! ^^

Chattering= "I dont like whats happening..."
Singing/squeeking= "I is HAPPY! C:" or "Feed me... NOWZ!"
Barking= "I is mad! :C" or "Warning my friends of danger!"
Squeeling= "OUCH!"

LOL, those are the only sounds Ive heard from my 2... I dont think they can really make other sounds.
So, your pig chattering means she dosnt like being picked up. Since youve only had her a week and a half, shes probably not used to you yet. ^^
I know Sunny used to bark and chatter alot when we first adopted her, so your piggie should feel better about being handled soon.

Unhappy

Thanks a lot guys for the replies, they helped me out.

Unfortunately the guinea pig that was doing it had a URI. I brought her to the vet on Sunday and they kept her to medicate her. She started to get really emaciated and heavie within the week I had her so i brought her to the vet ASAP. Rosie passed away Tuesday afternoon . I'm really bummed out but Flour still needs a friend so we went and bought Flour a new friend this afternoon named Sunshine (Sunny). It's a bittersweet ending thats for sure, I really miss her even though she was only with me for a week.

Flour likes her new friend after a little bit of squeaking and popcorning around. They are starting to cuddle, hopefully Sunny does better than Rosie did.

RIP ROSIE

Please keep a close eye on both pigs. Flour has just been exposed to Rosie's URI and can give it to your new pig. Or, your new pig from the store could have a different type of URI, and manage to give it to Rosie.

thanks for your support guys, I'll always remember her

I will keep a close eye and Sunny and Flour... they seem to be having a lot of fun. Every night around 9 or so they popcorn around so fast that the cage shakes!

I guess thats what babies do! haha!
