finally scheduled Olly to be neutered...

Hi Everyone -

I finally scheduled Olly to be neutered. Any advice? I asked all the questions that most recommend I should ask and am very confident in my vet. She has loads of experience with this sort of thing. The animal hospital has a great reputation and I have no choice but to go through with it. I've been keeping Olly & Ginger apart for months now, and he has become so frustrated, it's terrible. He's about 11 months old, so he's full grown. They'll be much happier when they can be together. I called a local rescue shelter who recommended I beef up his vitamin C intake to ward off infection. Any other thoughts? I'd really appreciate it! thanks!

Nothing I can add except "good luck".

BTW, how long until a male GP is full grown??

Not sure, but he certainly isn't getting any bigger at this point! I think they're full grown at about 10 months. Thanks to all for the good wishes! The surgery won't be until 11/30. I can't wait until it's over!

BTW, I assume Ginger is a female. And that is why you had it done.

Thanks for all the warm wishes! And yes, Ginger is a female - that's why I have to put the little guy through this.

I had a litter of only two almost three months ago. I posted photos of the two Abbys. Lucky for me they BOTH are guys, so it is not vital. If one was a female it would have been a hassle.

Best to your GP, Olly.

It went well - thanks for asking! Olly had the surgery on Nov. 30th, and was up & about (& eating) when I took him home later that day. The doctor had prescribed Baytril for 14 days - something I was worried about. Maybe she gave him antibiotics because I was really concerned about possible infection. Anyway, I noticed a change in him the next day (Thursday). He was sleeping all the time, not moving around much (if at all) and totally lost his appetite. Early Friday, I rushed him back to the doctor, who said everything seemed ok but that he might be reacting to the Baytril. He's been his old self since I stopped the pills! He's running around & purring at both Ginger & myself! He's eating & drinking normally, too. I'm going to wait until Christmas before putting them together. For now, I'll keep changing the bedding & feeding him lots of organic veggies (rich in Vitamin C)!
