Fungal infection tragedy.. and reoccurance

I barried one of my piggies last week. He died near the end of his fungal infection treatment. After he passed I took my other two, Oreo and Peaches, to the vet to make sure they were fine. Oreo is very healthy and did amazing during the exam, no problems at all. Peaches however acted much like my late piggie Chocolate. Very stressed at the vet handling her. He couldn't take her temp, or anything. But he looked her over and said she was showing signs similar to that of the fungal infection and suggested I treat her for it.

I'm now faced with having to seperate her from Oreo, and go through the treatment once again, with the risk of losing her. It isn't nearly as bad as Chocolate's infection... but I'm still a bit timid.

Any advice on handling the situation, and preventing it from coming up agian?

So sorry about your loss. What treatment was he receiving? When I bought my guinea pig, Ginger, last May, she ended up with a really bad case of ringworm. It started as a bump that I noticed the day I took her home. I rushed her to the vet who recommended starting treatment before seeing the results of the culture. It took a long time, first with an anti-fungal cream. When that didn't do the trick, the vet put her on an oral medication - Grisiofulvin - for 28 days. It worked. I was very worried, since she was just a baby & also needed an anti-biotic for a respitory problem. She started the Grisiofulvin after she was done fighting off the other problem. So far, the ringworm hasn't returned. It has been several months. That's how I found this site. Look in some of the archives for all the ringworm stories. I learned a lot & it was the only thing that got me through it. Good luck!

It was the oral medication with antibiotic. He said she didn't need the antibiotic but the fungal medication would be good.
