Question Guinea and Skinny Pig Cage????

Now that I have Ivan's beautiful little friend, Cookie, for him, and (I think) they both get along, no squabbling, just squeaking, leaving scents, and some nudges, (and Cookie always goes to Ivan or hides behind or beside him when I go to pick her up) I have to decide- keep them in an aquarium, or in a regular guinea pig cage w/ bars? (the big "pen" style cages that you can set on the floor or on a table). Since Ivan is a Skinny Pig, I don't want him to get cold in the winter. But since Cookie's a shorthair with a TON OF FUZZ, she can cuddle next to Ivan in the winter... What would you do? I'd personally go with the bar cages instead, with fabric bedding (what kind of fabric can I use?) and a hay container, a water bottle or two, a veggie bowl, and a food bowl. Some houses and tunnels, too! Anything I'm missing, and please give me your opinion on my cage choice and your cage choice?
Thanks!

Don't keep them in an aquarium, that will just raise their chanced of getting sick (URI). Make a CC cage and provide snuggle beds, blankets and hides.

Yes, definitely do NOT keep them in an aquarium! That's barely enough room to move around once they're grown and they will be exposed to massive amounts of ammonia from their own urine.

I would recommend reading guinealynx.info to get more information on guinea pigs in addition to the links provided by canadiancritter; it sounds like maybe you jumped into piggie ownership without a ton of research!

Thanks! And does URI need humidity to become....an active virus? Cause I dont live in a very wet place. I live in a dry dry dry (I could go on forever!) place!

And, well, kinda... (about the ownership.) I've had some people tell me I should keep them in an aquarium, and some not. I'm just not sure.

guinea pigs should never be in an aquarium. if you are worried about them getting cold just get a nice hide that will keep warm.

No, it does not need humidity. The most overwhelming factors are exposure to new animals and inappropriate environment, which make the lungs and immune system weaker and more prone to infections.

The most common vitamin deficiancy in piggers is a lack of Vitamin C, wich can causes scurvey. Feeding them parsley, SMALL amounts of kale, and pellets that cantain Vitamin C are a much better option.

Vitamin C is also notoriously sensitive to light and heat -- within about an hour of you putting vitamin C drops into water, you have orange water with no Vitamin C in it.

Yeah, I already know not to do that... I've seen some vitamin water at the pet store in guinea pig cages, and the pigs don't look so good...

And yes, I have a hay bin, a litter box, a water bottle, a house, and little chew for them so their teeth don't go too long. I don't use aspen- I have a Skinny pig. I use CareFresh. They are in a gigantic barred cage. (I finally found one.) I give them parsley and lettuce every day.

Well Im glad you have a big cage for it and oh I didnt know that about the vitamins. Yes I knew about vitamin c deficinacy thats why I give my ginea pig vitamin c in her water she drinks her water so much she loves it. Yes If your guinea pig does not drink the water with the vitamins in it then of course dont put it in there water any more put it in there food or something. My guinea pig has the vitamns in her water and she drinks it so shes fine and she looks healthy and she is really super healthy I take very good care of her. I love her to death.
