I got another one..

so i was at the petstore getting some aquatic plants and i spotted this shy yet very sweet gp and ended up taking him home, it was horrible bc he was a male and he was with females...they are about 3months old and you can never be sure...and i asked the manager when they were sexually active to see if he knew, and he said they were at the moment, and i asked how in the world could he keep them together like this? his reply was that its soo cute to have gp babies....

i took the male gp with me, i felt sorry for him, the way the people picked him up, how fat he was, im such a sucker but i took him.
im going to have him neutered next week and then i will introduce him to my little girl, Cinnabun...hopefully i ll have some pics to show

awww ..i know its hard to resist isnt it?!!

Yeah at the petstore where i got my piggies they had males and females together...i was hoping none of my girls were preggers and thankfully they were not.

Are you gonna keep them separate? I would cuz if you put them together you know what will happen..and cinnabun being a female can become pregnant even as young as she is. This is your first time with GP's right?
If you do keep them separate they can have playtime together but you gotta watch them closely..you know how males can be!!

Cant wait for pics...hey what is his name?? (Poll?? )
What color is he??

Make sure you keep him in a separate room from you girl. Store bought pigs often have illnesses and you want to make sure he is healthy before he is even in the same room as your girl. Its best to quarantine for 3 weeks. URI's can be contagious from him to her through you touching him. So its best to have a separate clothing when handling him. Also make sure you wash up good too.

Also, make sure that you keep him in a separate cage 3 weeks after his neuter. He can still reproduce for up to 3 weeks even neutered.

Plus you might want to triple check that he is really a boy. Petstores often get it wrong.

Also, 3 months is pretty young for a neuter. Our vet prefers to do them no earlier than 6 months, and generally likes to wait until a year old (since tiny pigs are hard to do that type of surgery on).

Also, make sure that your vet gives pain medication and antibiotics after the neuter. Many insist that it's not necessary, and I have seen many pigs very bad off after neuters without pain meds. Expect a lot of complications. Guinea pigs are notoriously prone to abscesses when healing up, and the fact that males rub their genitals against things to mark them makes that area even more prone. Hobo had 2 abscesses and rejected his sutures after his neuter (had had a testicular tumor). He was on antibiotics for nearly a month and a half, and pain meds for just about as long.

His was a pretty rough neuter because of some genetic factors, and I spent a lot of time handfeeding him and trying to keep his weight up.

thanks for the advice guys, they are my first gps

hes a chunky boy...he's gray in coloring with red eyes, i thought it was a boy and asked the other people, i positive, i saw him trying to hump a gp at the store and his little guy was showing..so im gonna say he is..lol

hopefully the neutering goes well, im def doing painkillers and antibiotics..i should post some pics up shortly

i kind of felt bad, bc i wanted to get a female so i wouldnt have to go through this neutering, but he just grabbed my attention..and his demeanor just won me over

you do have them in separate cages right?? Even if you had them together it would still be good to separate them now til he is neutered and past quarantine time.

The quarantine thing Amber mentioned is very important. You dont want a pregnant piggie cinnabun or any diseases or illness passed on.
