not eating greens....

Ok, so my first piggie that i had recently gotten, the 6week old, which i havent gotten a name for yet (any suggestions btw?)

she doesnt seem to be wanting to eat any fresh greens that i give her, she has timothy and alfalfa hay present at all times, but she doesnt seem to eat anything more...i gave her green peppers, parsley, a few strawberries...anything i can think of that would have vit c and nutrients, but she doesnt seem to enjoy them, and i am worried that the hays themselves my not have enough vit c, plus its not even written on the package that it contains it...they are kaytee brands

any suggestions?

i dont know, when i was reading up on iguana's it said its common for an iguana to refuse to eat things that are better for it and should taste good to it if it was not a part of their diet before (like rescued from someone who only feeds it lettece) and you really have to work with them getting them into a better diet my only suggestion is maybe to some how grind it all up and get it to be in block form that she could chew off and get everything she needs... i guess maybe you could spray the hay and sprinkle vitamins on it until she is eatting better

Guinea pigs from pet stores commonly don't know what greens are because of the grossly improper diet that they're fed there. 2 of my rescue pigs came from a backyard breeder that sold to pet stores, and I literally had to poke the veggies into their mouths for weeks to make them chew and get the flavor of it.

Try a red pepper. Maybe she will like that more. Rub it on her little lips like Jenn said if you need to. Besides it encouraging her to eat - it's fun to do! Don't tell moonprincess but I did it to Smore at first. It was before she was their mom though!
Trust me it was funny. I just love piggie dispositions!

well the good news is that she has finally started to eat her greens, she still doesnt quite like the taste of peppers but she is finally starting to enjoy fresh greens like parsley, a little orange, and some fresh clovers (i live outside the city setting, so there are meadows in my area that arent touched by pesticides )

i also bought her some pellets with vitamin c, and peter's meadow hay, and im trying to find some oxbow products but cant seem to find them around my area

she seems to be eating well, and has put on some descent weight and actually appeared to grow some...so now i can worry less

Did you goto the Oxbow website? You can do a search for stores that sell it in your area.

Oh, that sucks. Can you order it online?

Another good place to order from is Kleenmama's Hayloft :: Home
