Cool pig w/ gas???

I have a two year old white crested piggie and lately I've been noticing that he seems to have gas. I mean, I'm holding him and he, er, farts. I have't given him any fruits or veggies, but mostly timothy hay and regular guinea pig food. Why is my pig gassy?

Hey, to clarify something here, when I said I haven't been givin him fruit or veggies I meant since I noticed the gas. Jus so y'all don't think I never give them leafy greens.

You never give him fruits or veggies at all? Pigs require at least a cup of fresh greens and veggies (and a tiny amount of fruit) every day. It provides an important source of Vitamin C and other nutrients for them.

Here is a comprehensive list of good veggies: http://guinealynx.info/diet_vegs.html

Pigs can get bloated if they aren't constantly eating, that's why unlimited hay should always be provided. If food doesn't keep moving through their system, it will ferment causing gas and lead to bloat. Bloat can be difficult to treat if left too long, not to mention it's painful for the pig. Does he have any tightness in the belly at all?

I would suggest taking your piggie to a vet right away and getting him examined. He may need to be put on a motility agent to get things moving. If left untreated, you could have some serious issues to deal with later on.
