possibly pregnant pig

A few days ago I got a guinea pig from a lady who had more than she was allowed by the management. This girl is absolutely a doll. She's a texel, and has long curly hair. She's pretty big, and I was told that she might be pregnant. Apparantly this pig loves to be pregnant, and is a terrific mom, or has been with her previous litters. How do I tell if she is pregnant, or just big? She's pretty wide, about 6 inches when she lays down. Her nipples are pretty big, too... I don't feel babies moving in her tummy... I guess its best to be prepared just in case... I'd take her to the vet, but I can't afford it until next friday when I get paid...

Monitor her weight to see how much she's gaining. Have a vet lined up, as even "great" mothers can have problems and die during birth. Texels are also prone to a variety of skin issues and possible bone problems, so hope none of these turn up in the babies.

When you can feel the babies moving inside her that means she is, at max, 2 weeks away from birth.

i'm not good at detecting movement. I sort of imagine it when its not there, so i'm not trusting myself. i went through this awhile ago with my rabbit, i was so sure she was pregnant, and i swear i felt babies moving, but i was wrong. anyways, Shirley is going to the vet on tuesday, hopefully i'll get some answers then.

When you are able to feel real movement it will not be a figment of your imagination. It will feel like aliens moving around inside your guinea pig's belly.

Put one hand on either side of your girl's lower belly and wait. Try that every day until you feel movement.
