Exclamation Tumor????

I discovered a small lump on Victor's back last night, it seems to hurt him when I touch it. It dosent look like an abcess, could it be cancerous since it seems to hurt him?

My zoo:
The rats: London, Remmy, Butterfly, and Arabella
The guinea pigs: Victor, Augustus, and baby Milo

how can you tell that its not an abcess, my vet has thought an abcess was a tumor bc it was hard and didnt discover that it was an abcess until he operated

maybe the guinea pig has a bump from hitting itself against something, maybe its an abcess since it hurts or maybe it is a tumor (you should really find out from a vet, bc if its a tumor it will get big, break off and spread..) good luck

When my mice have abcesses, its because of a wound that got infected, I saw no wound were the abcess is. I hope its from hitting against something. If it gets any bigger Ill take him to the vet.

How is Victor doing?
Well this lump could also be a sebaceous cyst. Blocked sebaceous glands filled with sebum and pus are painful for the cavy but not lethal. Let a vet take a look. If it is such a cyst he will open it, remove the matter ant treat it with antibiotics.

Guinea pigs are very prone to developing abscesses, so it could be an abscess, even though you can't find a wound. I suggest you take him to the vet now, and not "If it gets bigger". The bigger a lump becomes, the more difficult it is to remove, and the harder the surgery is on the pig.

i agree with jennicat, an abscess can exist even without the trace of a visible wound, but it could really be anything, hopefully its just a bump, but if it gets any bigger then you should really have it removed by a vet
