what color piggy do I have?

I would like to know what Shaw-nee's color is. When I got her no one told me what color she is. Even if I did they would have got it wrong, cuz I was told the she was a Peruvian. Well, obviously she is a Silkie. Can someone help me?

and when she is cut short...

Peruvian is not a color its a breed of guinea pig...same thing for Silkie...its a breed not a color. I would say the color of your piggie is black with tan

Peruvian
The Peruvian coat is smooth and straight, and grows to several inches in length. The hair naturally parts down the center of the back, and also grows forward over the head.
The dense, soft coat of the Peruvian requires a great deal of grooming, and many owners of Peruvian guinea pigs end up trimming the hair to keep it magageable.

Silkie
The Silkie is also known as the Sheltie, and has a very silky long coat. In contrast to the Peruvian, the Silkie's soft coat does not naturally part along the back, and grows backwards from the head

Coronet
The Coronet Guinea Pig is also long-haired, but has a single rosette ("coronet") in the center of the forehead and it grows backwards from the head. Like other long haired guinea pigs, Coronets need lots of grooming

here is a good link with info and pics to scroll thru...Guinea pig breed guide

Awe, Shawnee is absolutely adorable!!!! She makes me want to pet my computer screen!

LuvNature provided very good information and pix as to the different breeds. Have you decided which breed Shawnee is yet? I'm anxious to find out myself.

Aww well the hair type is definitely Silkie (known as Sheltie in UK)... but the colour..... hmmm, that's a difficult one! It does look as though she has a bit of tan in her but what is that grey-ish colour... I was going to say Slate?

I could ask on the guinea pig forum I belong to if you like? Plenty of breeders and exhibitors who will know for sure.

Why don't you go to the Guinealynx forums and ask about your pig.

Yah, she does appear to be a black w/ some tan when her hair is long. But the I lift up or cut her hair then she has all the white hair mixed in with her black! So I'm confused! lol.
