Avalon--What Is He?

What is he?

In the middle of a busy road I was crossing to go to the pet store on the other side, last week, was this little grey creature. I chased him to the middle divider and picked him up gingerly by the tail and dropped him into a zippered sack grocery sack I had. The pet store didn't know what he was. But the nit wit girl put her hand in the sack and got bit for her trouble. The manager, a nit wit boy, didn't know what he was either and tried to lift him out by the tail and it shed off in his hand scaring him.

I took my now injured rescue home and took this odd tail shedding trait, to a web search and came up with Chinchilla Rat.

Here is his picture.
So much for that---I'm trying to find out what an animal is and I can't post a picture yet. I guess I have to post some inocuous post just to get Avalon's picture up...So wait up!

Is this what I have? He's about palm sized body wise 4 inches long....He had a long tail....But at the skinned off part, it either fell off or he chewed it off a couple of days later.

There was a similar colored animal inside the pet store that I thought was a chinchilla but now I'm begining to wonder if she wasn't the adult of this little one since they grow to 10 inches long and she was about that size.

Another forum thinks he's some sort of gerbil, but I have gerbils and he's nothing like them especially temper wise. He is nocturnal. And so are CR's.

So what's you're best guess.
