The babies met their big bros

I've had Jack and Apollo for 2 weeks now, so I let them meet Hercules and Zorro. It went fairly well. I used vanilla to mask scents and gave them all some yogurt that they shared nicely. At the very beginning, Zorro got a little aggressive. He wasn't attacking the babies, but he was grabbing them in his mouth and it seemed like he was trying to throw them or something. He always stopped when I told him no. After I gave them the yogurt he was fine and they all crawled on each other and snuggled a bit. Then, he got mean again and did the same thing, so I put him away and let the others play for a little bit longer.

What is Zorro saying with this type of behavior, and what can I do to stop it?

Maureen

Are these mice or rats? Male mice get very territorial and usually dont take to mice from different litters. Sometimes they dont even take to their own littermates.

[
[If its rats you' have to start introducing on neu'tral ground like you'r bed or the bathtub. Its hard to introduce any animal by just simply throwing them into a cage together.

They are rats, and they were out in my living room on the couch.

How old are the babies? I am sure if you keep letting them out together on neutral ground, they will eventually start to accept eachother.

The babies are almost 8 weeks old. I had them out this morning and there were no incidents, so hopefully Zorro is coming around to them. Hercules likes them just fine, he lets them jump all over him and it's so cute! I really hope they get to be ok together because I'm finishing up building a big new cage to put all 4 of them in so it will suck if I still have to keep them separate.

Just give them time and I'm sure things will be fine. I've been lucky b/c Nazy took to his sons and their new buddy like he had lived with them his whole life *cuddles nazy* such a good boy. Of course I let them meet 3 or 4 times and everything seemd fine so I cleaned the cage and just watched them. The whole side opens so I could break up anything bad. Nothing has ever happend *knocks on wood* .

Im going throu'gh a problem now where my babies are growing u'p. Theyre acting like teenagers and the one wants to be alpha. My oldest isnt letting that happen so they have their boxing matches. I had to seperate the teenager one night and theyve been fine ever since. If you' give the one that is going after the other ones a time ou't for awhile, theyll come arou'nd. Thats kind of a last resort before keeping them hou'sed apart thou'gh.
