Baby Maybe?

I'd decided to breed my Himmie girl Dumbolina, and my Mentor agreed that the male I'd chosen would be a great match. Their markings are great, even if the quality of the Rex coat is not.

But I'm frustrated, she is sleeping more, has gained a little bit of weight, but not enough to make me think she is pregnant. But then her mother never really looked pregnant either, and she had a litter of 17! It's so frustrating! But if she is pregnant, the babies should come within the next week, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed! But very very anxious!

This is my last mentored breeding, so I may just be nervous about that too. I'll get some pictures of Lina posted tomorrow, and her Mom (Vintage Velvateen)

A breeder starting out gets themself a knowlegeable and ethical established breeder to mentor them...teach them the ropes, they often use that breeders rats to start with, and they approve of the matings, etc. This is the last one that TweedleDee will be watched over every step of the way, the next time she decides to try a pairing she is on her own.

What is the goal of this pairing TweedleDee?

I'm looking to widen up the points on the nose, and darker shading on the ears. Also because of my awesome Mentor I've had alot of luck keeping my Himmies HW instead of the fading to cream, which is a show fault. In May last year my girl Sakura took 3rd in Show (Jr Compitition because I was still being mentored) and in turn, because she placed, my Mentor took her as part of her line. I'm hoping to enter CMR Dora the Explorer in the show at Rodent Fest in May. She is the litter mate of Lina.

Here is a picture of Lina, Dora, and Vel (sorry this one was taken with my cell phone at RF last year)

Lina

Dora

Vel

And if anyone is interested, Lina started nesting today, every thing is all piled up in the corner of her cage! Poppi is standing gaurd, and my freak cat who thinks Rittens are her babies has started laying next to the cage!

There are 11 babies, all of them seem to be doing well, they all have milk bands, and Poppi, Linas cage mate is already trying to give them treats! (I gave her and Lina a bit of Hard Boiled Egg Mash, and she took some over to the nest and laid it on the babies) A sweet allbeit misguided gesture! Lina is doing well too, active, and happy!
